Today I am letting you in on a little secret.

As long as you don’t tell any of my mates!

Actually  it’s not really a secret they all know anyway.

I love my fishing especially barramundi fishing.

But I cannot for the life of me work out how to throw a cast net without looking like a complete goose!

It’s not like I haven’t tried, and many of my (so called) mates have tried to teach me many different ways to “easily” throw a cast net.

Although I get the distinct feeling that they are more interested in the entertainment value my lack of net throwing ability provides while they are sitting around drinking beer watching my latest pathetic attempts!

The makers of Corona, one of our favourites, owe me big time for the amaount of hours that I have provided the entertainment whilst their product is being shall we say sampled!

Any way the other day I was at the Gold Coast Camping and Four wheel Drive Show. As luck would have it the guys from Cast-nets Australia were there, (watch the video at the bottom of the post) any way Ryan assures me that even I will be able to easily throw a cast net now!
Sorry boys no more afternoons of me entertaining you while we knock out a few wood fired pizza’s and throw back more than a few cold beers!

My old mate Harko recently packed the kids and his boat up and headed to Karumba in Queensland’s Gulf of Carpentaria for a bit of Queenslands famous barramundi fishing.

It took him three years and two boats but he finally got one!!! That was the comment from his very supportive wife on facebook!!! LOL

Anyway with a grin like that on his face do you think he really cares??? I think not.

So lets find out exactly what tactics Harko used to capture these beauties. the were three in all two of them 76cm and one 82cm!!!!!

I managed to get him on the phone and squeze all of his secret’s out of him in the audio below.

As this is the first post for the new year, I have been looking everywhere to find something unique to kick off with.

Today I found it in the Tales from the Tinnie

Three lads Tim, Rob and Morgan that are mad keen about Darwin Barramundi Fishing, as well as any other fishing in the Northern Territory.

The boys describe their show as “A fishing show that dispenses precious drops of good angling oil”

They are running what they call the greatest fishing competition  ever!!!

The barramundi fishing blog is going to become, alot more interactive in the coming weeks.

To kick things off I will be loading up some reviews, of essential and innovative barramundi fishing equipment.

In my quest to bring you the best barramundi fishing information available.

I thought we would push the envelope, and take a look at fly fishing for barramundi.

I went down to catch up with the boys at Tie ‘N’ Fly Outfitters, at Buddina Beach on the Sunshine Coast.

Capt Gavin Platz was very helpful and spent quite a bit if time, explaining the basics of fly fishing to me as I am just a novice.

Gavin recommended two particular salt water flies for barramundi fishing.

Which has step by step instruction on how to tie these flies, even a PDF of the instructions that you can download.

There is a load of great info on Gavin’s site, even an online shop where you can puchase, fly tying kits. As well as everything else you need for fly fishing.

Capt Gavin Platz also runs a beginner fly fishing course, with the upcoming dates being the 3rd of October and the 26th of November.

As it is nearly Father’s day, I thought it would be appropriate to pass on some relevant information.

As to what exactly a barramundi fishing maniac Father might want!!

The first thing that came in to my head was a Darwin barramundi fishing trip.
